Q: Who is TDIC?

A: The Dentists Insurance Company (TDIC) is a property/casualty insurance company that focuses exclusively on supporting the dental profession by offering a comprehensive suite of professional and business liability, commercial property, workers’ compensation, employment practices liability and cyber liability products. Founded by a bold group of California Dental Association (CDA) members in 1980, TDIC is wholly owned by CDA and protects a large community of dentists. With this merger, TDIC extends its exceptional legacy, brand values, financial strength and stability to more than 5,000 additional policyholders in five additional states, protecting more than 24,000 total policyholders in 15 states.

A:TDIC and Northwest Benefits Insurance Company (NORDIC) share a commitment to a dentist-centric philosophy and to protecting the future of the dental professional liability industry. In 2017, TDIC purchased three companies: NORDIC, Dentists Benefits Corporation (DBC) and Dentists Benefits Insurance Company (DBIC) from Moda, Inc. — with a mission to return a singular focus on dentistry to NORDIC policyholders.

Q: When will the merger take effect?

A: We anticipate the merger to be complete by the end of 2018 and take effect Jan. 1, 2019, pending regulatory approval.

Q. What should I expect to change as a result of the merger?

A:In the coming months you will see the name, The Dentists Insurance Company or TDIC, take the place of NORDIC in your company materials. The most visible change will be the name and logo from NORDIC to TDIC.

Q: Why is NORDIC changing its name?

A: NORDIC became part of The Dentists Insurance Company family when TDIC acquired it in 2017. As part of the acquisition, the name will change January 1, 2019 when TDIC becomes your new underwriting company. This one name, The Dentists Insurance Company, represents our shared strength, community of policyholders and continued focus only to protect dentists.
